Over the years the list of professional photographers that I come across while searching for new inspiration is to long for me to keep track of, but in situations where someone might ask me who my favorite artists are there’s always a handful of creatives that come to mind. I consider these guys to be the best of the best at what they do. True prodigies. And every time I glance at what they do I am compelled to create something that I can be proud of.

The screen grab below is the website of Stanislav Petera. Based out of the Czech Republic, about two countries north of Italy, he specializes in fashion, advertising, and digital art compositing. In his site he provides something which most photographers neglect to do: show behind the scenes footage of photo shoots and tutorials. He doesn’t speak much of english so it would be difficult for someone from the U.S to take full advantage from his knowledge.

Other iconoclastic artists, I won’t go into much detail about, but the work of each creates such a unique impact. Some specialize in commercial digital imagery similar to Stanislav and others bring something a bit different to the table that continuously raises the bar for the digital photography industry. Militia Drive

From the outskirts of Kansas City is a very new band called Militia Drive with a vibe that resembles At the Drive-In, Coheed, Fall of Troy or whoever a young punk/metal music enthusiast might find to be of that stellar degree. Anyways, that tall guy with the go-tee is my brother. He’s the lead vocalist who asked me to come by their practice the other morning and to bring my camera. I had never heard them play before then so I figured it was a good day to photograph a fucking loud energetic band.

“There was a band called Amative…. Yeah…. After a year or so of being a band they all split and went their different ways. Then on a fateful day in November 2009, Wesley D and Robin Harvey had thoughts of starting a new project. It started out as them two. Just bass and drums, after creating one song, they decided to do an acoustic thing. With 2 acoustic songs, they decided to bring, one, Mr. James Leftwich, back into the picture. Again there was a three piece band. After reuniting after a year, there has been improvements in all their musical talents. Now with 7 songs in the process of making better, they found one hell of a guitar player named Wes Applebury. Now on this date of February 2, 2010, the band The Militia Drive is a four-piece band.”

So, yeah. I feel these guys definitely have great potential to move forward to a real music scene to draw in fans that appreciate great musical talent. They’re playin at the Main Street Cafe on April 3rd so if you’re in the KC metro area that day than you should drop everything and make your way to the venue.
