The Cravings

Among the wide variety of domestic as well as harvest animals and pets that are owned dogs are the most commonly abused by their owners. There are two types of cruelty cases that animal shelters, and animal control organizations deal with on a regular day-to-day basis: passive cruelty (neglect) or active cruelty (physical harm). The neglected are the ones who are chained or tied to a post for weeks, months, or even years. Some are restrained for so long that the skin of their neck heals over the chain and has to be surgically removed. Most of the time they do not have shelter so they end up freezing or getting extremely sick. If they happen to avoid these conditions they are for sure to suffer from starvation. Below are some cases you would find on www.pet-abuse.com
infested “It had maggots on it and part of the inside of its mouth was missing. The officers think this was due to rats.”

dog in chains

“A neighbor heard a whimpering sound from an abandoned house only to find a dog with it’s jaw and legs bound with chains.”
frozen

A pet shop owner did this. Others along with this dog were found in a
freezer.

Of all the cases that get reported is just the tip of the iceberg. In 2006 there were 3,453 cases added to www.pet-abuse.com. This number does not reflect the amount of occurrences happening each year. Its much more. If you have the ability to take a desperate animal into your custody than what are you waiting for. This is your chance to make a difference. At an animal shelter in your local area are pets that are waiting love and attention and need a home. If no one claims them they get euthanized regardless of how young or healthy they may be. In 2008 there were over 3 million dogs and cats euthanized. This year there is even more because of economic downturn. When I went into a local shelter there was a lot of puppies and kittens. Owner’s pets give birth to pups and they can’t find homes for them so they drop them off at shelters. This is why it’s important to keep your pets neutered or spayed.

If your thinkin ,”I’d love to help but I just don’t have the space for a pet”, there are still ways you can help. You can make donations to your local shelter or even
www.pet-abuse.com and help contribute to raising awareness of homeless animals and cruelty.

I have taken the opportunity to visit an animal shelter in Warrensburg, MO and found a few pets that would make a wonderful addition to the family and most certainly do not deserve to live in a cage. If you happen to live in this area and want to adopt a pet contact Warrensburg Animal shelter (660)747-7156 ask for Sarah.

Amazing band I

Amazing band I

I finally uploaded the images that I had crammed into my phone for the past two years. There were some ones from the Flaming Lips concert at the Uptown Theatre in Kansas City two septembers ago that turned out so much better than I thought they actually would. I remember regretting not sneaking in my DSLR into the show so i could take shots but I thought these were good enough. This band puts on such a great show that I recommend to anyone should go see. Even if you’ve never heard of them.

These are my Photo Album Layouts that were thrown together in a two-page format. The models are from previous assignments: Jessica Marie Pine, and Jon Linn. Special thanks to these two people. Explore my Flickr account here.

Here is my ProShow slideshow that took me forever to finalize because of technical stubborness. But, here it is. Enjoy!

This is my high key assignment. The rest of the shoot is all on the flickrrrrrrrr.

For this “Alien Bee” assignment I actually used the Lumedyne set and went exploring on campus once again with Angel Munoz only this time it was at night so it was quite a different learning experience. I have more of this set on a fl;kcr slydetiow.

I was asked to photograph some paintings for someone who is actually a commercial art designer so that she could use them for the internet and add to her collection of amazing art. Although these are paintings she does mostly digital art. Please check out some of her other works at her blog site by clicking here.

For my lighting ratio assignment I’ve decided to photograph Jon, a UCM friend who is majoring in Art Education and loves making music. Click here for a flickr slideshow of the project.

Last week I went to Powell Gardens, a floral park, with my portrait class and there we photographed these young kids that some classmates brought along.
